What is Squirter Ultrasonic Testing (UT)? Water Jet Coupled Inspection Systems

Squirter Ultrasonic Testing (Squirter UT) systems are advanced automated non-destructive testing solutions that provide ultrasonic inspection using water jet coupling between the probe and the test component. In this method, a controlled and stable water column is directed from the probe to the surface of the component, enabling ultrasonic waves to be transmitted efficiently into the material without direct contact.
Unlike immersion ultrasonic testing systems, squirter UT systems do not require the component to be submerged in a water tank. Instead, a thin and laminar water jet acts as an acoustic coupling medium. This approach makes the technology particularly suitable for large components, sensitive surfaces, or parts that must be inspected directly within production lines.
Squirter UT technology is widely used in industries where high-speed and high-precision inspection is required. It is especially common in aerospace and composite manufacturing for the inspection of large panels, structural components, and critical mechanical parts. The system enables reliable detection of internal defects such as delaminations, voids, inclusions, and bonding defects.
Modern squirter ultrasonic inspection systems are typically integrated with automated scanning mechanisms. CNC-controlled scanning systems precisely control probe movement and inspection paths, allowing large surfaces to be inspected quickly and consistently. This results in high inspection speed, repeatability, and accurate defect detection.
NEXSEN provides customized Squirter Ultrasonic Testing systems designed according to component geometry, inspection requirements, and production processes. Our systems combine advanced automation, reliable ultrasonic inspection performance, and efficient data acquisition to support industrial quality control applications.
