In forging operations, it is common for billets made from different material grades to become mixed after the billet cutting process. If an incorrect material enters the production line, it can lead to significant material waste and serious financial losses.
To eliminate this risk, eddy current-based material sorting systems are installed before the forging press stage. Billets moving along the conveyor are inspected before entering the induction heating system.
If a billet with a different material composition is detected, the system automatically diverts it to a reject chute. The entire process is controlled by a PLC, which also records the rejected parts for traceability.
To reliably detect different material variations in such applications, multi-frequency eddy current instruments are used, ensuring accurate and consistent material identification.
