Shaft & Coupler Inspection System (SCIS) is a cart-based Remote Visual Inspection (RVI) system specifically designed for the inspection of aviation shafts and couplers. The system integrates a high-definition camera, ultraviolet (UV) and white light illumination, and optional positioning fixtures to enable repeatable, accurate, and efficient inspections.
The SCIS supports both Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI) and Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) methods. Optional fixtures allow components to be rotated manually or by motor drive, ensuring full inspection coverage. Integrated position encoders record the coordinates of each inspection view, providing traceable and repeatable inspection documentation.
Illumination Control
The system features independent white light and UV illumination, enabling detailed remote visual examination during both white light and ultraviolet inspection processes.
White and UV light intensities can be controlled independently or simultaneously, providing flexibility for different inspection conditions. The illumination is evenly distributed across the entire field of view and delivers high spectral quality and intensity, ensuring optimal visibility of inspection indications.
Near-Coincident Viewing and Illumination
The SCIS utilizes uniform and balanced illumination to reduce shadows that could interfere with visual inspection. High-grade optics and precision micro components ensure that the camera viewing axis is closely aligned with the illumination axis, resulting in consistent and clear inspection images.
High-Definition Camera System
The SCIS incorporates a robust HD micro camera with remotely controlled focus, allowing inspectors to obtain sharp and detailed images during the inspection process.
The camera captures full-color video and still images at 1080p60 resolution, providing high-quality visual documentation for inspection records and reporting.
Wide Movement Range
The camera boom provides a large inspection envelope to accommodate a wide range of component sizes.
Movement range includes:
Manual control is standard, with optional motorized positioning available for enhanced inspection efficiency and repeatability.
Compliance
The SCIS system meets the requirements of PWA107540 – System, Inspection (FPI) Video Imaging, making it suitable for aerospace inspection environments requiring high reliability and documentation standards.
